Have you ever wondered what you would get if you took a ridiculous scene from a bad old Helen Hunt movie, then added in Keyboard Cat, then added in Hall and Oates? Well, if you’ve ever thought about that oddly specific scenario, then this is the video for you. The internet is fantastic.
Hi Everyone! I’m Abby Newcom, a Writing, Rhetoric and Communication and Religion double major at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. I’m the latest addition to the intern staff here at Iced Media in NYC, and I am incredibly excited about all the projects I will get to work on this summer!
I found this internship through the company the University of Dreams who connects ambitious students with great companies that offer internships for the summer in their city of choice. Being a sophomore in college, my experience was limited in the working world as well as big city life, but New York is my dream city and I couldn’t imagine gaining better experience anywhere else!
When it came time for interviewing, I happened to be taking a class traveling through Greece and Turkey which made the process that more difficult and that more stressful. I ended up interviewing with Naledi Khabo at 11 pm in Mykonos, Greece. I heard back the next day and knew that my search for the perfect internship was complete!
My internship being for 10 weeks allows me to experience a little bit of everything. I definitely jumped into internship the first day, being assigned to create the programs for the ‘Stop AIDS in Black America’ panel discussion for the next day. The task was intimidating, but I knew that it was a preview of how hands-on my internship with Naledi and Reggie would be, and that was exactly what I wanted. Most of the internships that my friends have consist of filing papers and making copies; they haven’t been able to even dip their toes in their respective businesses. Here, I’m given some responsibility and while the pressure might be greater to an extent, I know in the end I will be one step closer in the direction of where I want my future career to go.
As for my experience in New York City thus far, it has been nothing short of amazing! I have been to NYC five times prior to this extended stay, but there is something to the city that between the hustle and bustle makes me feel right at home, even if my home is nothing in comparison. I’ve been here for a week and already I am getting frustrated at slow-walking tourists and I beam every time I get asked if I’m live around here (That’s four times so far, but then they hear my southern accent.) Right now, I have a growing list of 30+ things I want to do while in New York and I plan on writing about all of them!
For the next 9 weeks, I will be keeping you updated on my experience both working here at Iced Media and my experience living in New York City. Keep checking back for posts! I will update often!

Yeah, it’s in New York. Sorry. But take the trip if you’d like. Here are the details per Gawker ad fella, James:
-Deadspin Subway Series Bar Crawl, Saturday 6/13 from 3:30-8:30
-Start out at Mercury Bar on 34th and 3rd Ave from 3:30-5.
-Then over to Tonic (3rd and 29th) from 5-6:30.
-Finally, end the night at Sidebar (15th and Irving) from 6:30-8:30.
-Revelers can come and go as they wish, no need to show up exactly at 3:30 and stay the whole time.
-Corona has been nice enough to sponsor the meet up, meaning there will be FREE Corona all night for our readers.
